January Musings 2021
January 31, 2021
In these kinds of blog posts, I talk about what I’ve been up to for the month. The topics may include design work, hobbies, and more. At the end, I include the top five songs I listened to for any fellow music lovers out there.
Life’s Tapestry
I completed some freelance work for my aunt for her private therapy practice. It has been an ongoing project since November 2020. I created a logo, WordPress website with a paid theme, and business cards. The logo creation took a bit of time as my aunt did not quite know what she wanted. However, as we progressed and I gave her options in different colors and typefaces, I was able to create a logo that embodied her brand. The website took most of the time. I researched WordPress themes and presented some options to her. Once she chose a theme, it was time to build out the website with Bluehost. This included creating webpages, sourcing photos from iStock, and getting copy from my aunt. Because of the light orange color block on her Home page, sourcing images from iStock turned out to be a huge undertaking. I searched for hours to find photos of people on the right side then presented to her a few options for each web page in a PDF. I created and tested out the main contact form as this is an important part of my aunt getting potential clients. When everything was done on the website, I paid someone else to set up Cloudflare CDN, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console. This person also sped up her website significantly. We still need to create social media accounts, but I do not think it’s a huge priority for now.
Family Game Nights on Zoom
The same aunt was able to quarantine then visit my family for Christmas. She drove up to Illinois with a friend then me and my dad drove 7+ hours to get her. It was great to spend time with her for Christmas. She went back to Florida after Christmas so we decided to do family game nights on Zoom to keep in touch. The game we mainly play is Drawful 2 on jackbox.tv. I bought the game on my computer then shared my screen on a Zoom call with my aunt. Everyone needs their own device (phone or tablet) to go to jackbox.tv and enter a room code. After that, you can draw your own avatar then start the game once everyone is in. It’s a bit like Pictionary. You get a random phrase of words that you have to draw. Once everyone does their drawing, each of the drawings come up and people have to type out what they think is the right title to the drawing. The last step is to pick the right title to the drawing from the pool of answers. People can get super creative with their answers and some of them can be hilarious. You can definitely see everyone’s personality show through with their answers. Kahoot! is another game we have tried, though I think Drawful 2 takes the cake as the family’s favorite game.
