Albarella Design was established in 1982 by Kathy Albarella as a design studio specializing in design, production, web, and interactive services. In late 2023, it merged with Plaid Moose Creative. I joined the team to assist with design projects and build practical experience, focusing on production design alongside Kathy and Linnea for clients such as CHS, Cenex, and 3M. I worked in the office two days a week for the first two months before transitioning to a limited remote schedule due to COVID-19.
Projects typically began with a meeting to review the job folder and ensure task clarity, followed by checking client emails for additional insights. To familiarize myself with the CHS brand, I studied their guidelines and past projects. The first project was redesigning the CHS Diversity and Precision Grant Flyer to replace an outdated PDF with a modern layout adhering to CHS branding. Next, I designed CHS/Cenex Direct Check Mailers from scratch, sourcing content from Word, icons from the Noun Project, and images from iStock. I also updated the 3M Dell Sell Sheet by changing the Zone of Privacy logo color and adding extra details. The final project involved reformatting five CHS Facility Overview Sheets to align with CHS’s new visual identity following their recent rebrand.
During my four months at Albarella, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of branding guidelines for companies. The final designs were cohesive and communicated effectively with the target audience. I made thoughtful design decisions to ensure each project accurately reflected the client’s brand. My time at Albarella also taught me valuable lessons about working in a design studio environment, the significance of double-checking my work, the necessity of maintaining clean files, and how to properly package files for client delivery.
